Exhibition Description:
AXIS & ANCESTRY: The Architecture of Logic and the Imprint of the Hand
Axis & Ancestry examines the liminal space between the precision of Swedish structuralism and the primordial nature of hand-formed vessels. The acrylic works serve as a study of Euclidean geometry—reducing the world to its most essential angles—while the large-scale ceramic vases provide a visceral, tactile response. By placing these geometric “blueprints” alongside the heavy, earthen presence of the vases, the exhibition challenges the viewer to find harmony between the cerebral and the corporeal.
My intention is to design and create pieces that bring calm and stillness. Focusing on shape, color, form and line, I achieve harmony by eliminating non-essential elements. My artwork reflects my Scandinavian heritage, prioritizing balance with clean lines and simple compositions.
About the Artist: Desi Murphy

St. Cloud-based artist, Desi Murphy, has been painting and designing clay pieces for over 27 years. Her ceramic works are porcelain and stoneware. Her paintings are acrylic on canvas. Murphy’s Scandinavian Modern style prioritizes clean lines, functionality and a neutral palette. For added control of her work, she develops and mixes her own glazes and paint colors. She focuses on craftsmanship and perfecting her process, simple forms, and materials that emphasize a clean aesthetic. She achieves harmony by using an elegant combination of practicality and sophistication.
Murphy received her BFA from the College of St. Benedict and exhibits her award-winning artwork throughout Minnesota. She is also the owner of Desi Murphy Pottery, a commercial art studio and gallery in St. Cloud.
