Exhibition Description:
Keep’er Movin’ is a mixed media collection of drawings and paintings featuring animal portraits caught in precarious moments of decision, longing, movement, barriers, and congestion. Blending cliché sentiments with loose, gestural drawing, the work highlights the humor and tension of everyday encounters—both animal and human—and invites viewers to consider the quiet narratives unfolding.
• What holds may not be an embrace but a barrier. – Lily Brutger
• Keep’er Movin’ Through the chaos Within or without the herd.
• Decide what to keep – What to return.
• Find a stillness in What is here and what lies ahead.
About the Artist: Lily Brutger

Lily Brutger is a mixed media artist based in Central Minnesota, where she was born and raised. Her deep connection to animals has been a constant throughout her life; her family often joked that she “could talk to the animals.” This affinity shows in the way her animal portraits capture the spirit and personality of each creature.
Her work features Midwest imagery, landscapes, animals, and traditionally feminine craft, reflecting her lived experience in this region. Drawing from moments preserved in her camera roll, each piece highlights a precarious yet familiar instant, inviting viewers to construct a narrative or metaphor from the imagery.
After studying studio art and art history at the University of Minnesota–Morris and the University of New Mexico, she returned to Central Minnesota. She worked as the Art Coordinator at Art in Motion on the Lake Wobegon Trail from its opening in 2020 until 2023. She is currently an art teacher at Sartell–St. Stephen Schools and is pursuing a Master of Teaching in K–12 Visual Art at Bethel University. This exhibition marks her first solo show.
