Artist Statement

The purpose of my work is to share color and bring the joy of original art to spaces. Color perception varies from culture to circumstance and from person to person. My paintings represent how I see color, shape, and line daily. I work intuitively with no preconceived notion of the finished piece. They are expressive with my whole body in the larger works like those from the southwest dreams collection and meditative in the small works of my brushstroke poetry series. As I build the painting, it speaks to and guides me like a back-and-forth dialogue. This requires trust in the process and the ability to accept change. Several works are created at a time and as they are in the studio they tell me if they are complete. My time in the studio is a process of discovery. The color palettes are rooted in the primaries which represent body, emotion, and mind and there is harmony between these elements. The gestural strokes are repeated and create vibrant interactions. leads me to explore how it affects one’s well-being, and how the scale contributes to this response. You will find my door open when working to invite visitors to enter and engage in conversation and interaction, as an extroverted artist this feeds my creative soul. The paintings in this exhibition include those of my southwest dreaming collection and recent works following my visit to Santa Fe.
