Exhibiting Artist: Brandon John

Brandon John’s work explores dread, futurism, and hopelessness through surreal and otherworldly narratives. Using absurdity, mass production, and cartoon imagery—also known as comix—John probes the subconscious to stimulate conversation and manifest change for himself and the reader. Through his character NUT, John explores these themes and creates a universe for them to exist in, the “Nutverse.” NUT’s world is unfair, apocalyptic, and traumatic but in using his omnipotent powers, NUT restores agency in his life and recreates it in his own image. NUT’s actions and the ambiguity of his universe leave the reader to come to their own conclusions about the meaning and integrity of the Nutverse.
