Exhibition Description

Throughout the year, the Central Minnesota Watercolorists (CMW) gather at the Paramount to connect as members, explore art techniques through live demonstrations, share opportunities to sell and exhibit work. This November, we invited CMW to host an exhibition that features the artwork created by its members – showcasing what they learned in 2023.

This exhibition titled, “Winter, Shadow and Light” explores water media used to create work inspired by the stark wintery days – illustrating the delicate dance between shadows and light across the paper.

About the CMW

The Central Minnesota Watercolorists (CMW) began as a small group of artists with a great love for the watercolor medium. The first formal meeting of about ten local artists was held January 19, 1981, to share ideas, experiences and information; and for the purpose of mutual learning, encouragement and motivation. The first meeting consisted of painting together. Artists brought their paints, ideas and other supplies. Demonstrations of new painting techniques were provided by the members, and critiques were held. As the artists increased their skills, the members were encouraged to participate in exhibits and in one person art shows. Our group now consists of more than 100 area painters, several of whom are “professional artists.”
