“Warp speed” takes on a whole new meaning, as artist Joe Muehlbauer leads our amazing exploration of fiber arts! We will explore the ins and outs of basic weaving; from frame to table looms, learning a few terms, and tid-bits about different fibers along the way. Using what we’ve studied, Joe will teach us how to create a decorative piece (perfect on the wall, under a plant, or as a potholder) using a simple plastic loom. Next, Joe will guide us step-by-step through the art of Japanese braid-making, called kumihimo, to create either a beautiful bracelet or necklace, you choose! At the end of our session you will walk away with two amazing projects, the simple loom and braiding disk for future projects, and will have had a “sew” much fun creating!
We greatly appreciate following organizations,
whose support made these activities possible:
Bank Vista
Casey’s General Store
Kwik Trip
Moose Lodge
St. Cloud Lions
Sauk Rapids VFW
Complete this project in about an hour (or two depending on project choice!)

About the Instructor:
This week we are excited to work with artist Joe Muehlbauer, who teaches and has exhibited multiple times at the Paramount Center for the Arts. You may have seen his beautiful quilt series Keepers of the Sacred Dance, which was on display last summer in the Paramount Theatre Lobby. Joe is enthusiastic about all different mediums of art, experimenting with a little bit of everything from pen and ink to his passion for sewing and weaving! He finds inspiration everywhere he looks, and is always up for artistic challenges; embracing both newer technologies and time-honored techniques of traditional methods. Joe has a unique ability to spark your curiosity, you think outside the box, and is excited to create with you!
