“Impending – A World without Ism’s”, St. Cloud State University’s sixth annual Alumni Art Show, opens Oct. 4 at the Paramount Theatre, 9123 Germain St. W. St. Cloud.
The sixth annual Alumni Art Show is on display Oct. 4-30 and features artwork by St. Cloud State alumni chosen by curator KOBI, a St. Cloud State alumnus. KOBI is a multidisciplinary Liberian/Ghanaian artist working in film and photography.
“Impending-A World without Ism’s” is an experience that imagines a world where oppression and bigotry does not exist; or at the minimum is held accountable.
“I chose these artists not just because of their ability and my knowledge of their craft; but also because of the diverse perspectives they would bring to this experience,” KOBI said. “This future needs to be created by all of us, so in this experience you will see Black, Hispanic/Latinx, White, non-bianary, female and male individuals coming together to create a world where we’re all valued.
“The goal is not to create a world where we’re all the same; but rather a world where all of our differences are recognized, appreciated and valued.”
A reception for the exhibit will be 6-8 p.m. Oct. 15 at the gallery in conjunction with St. Cloud State Homecoming and the Downtown Art Crawl events.
KOBI earned his BFA in Integrated Media and Film Production from St. Cloud State. He believes the art we make is an extension of who we were, who we are and who we want to become, he said.
“The truth is tricky, and my goal is not to create an absolute truth but rather provoke conversations that question how we think,” he said.
The Alumni Art Show is a collaboration between the School of the Arts and the St. Cloud State Alumni Association.
