Join us for an exciting adventure into the world of paper clay with artist Terri Hess! This fun medium, which feels like playdough, can be shaped into almost any form you can imagine and will air dry on the kitchen counter! Terri will guide us step-by-step through several decorative projects including multiple bowl forms, wall hangings, bead making and more! We will explore basic clay terminology and have a crash course in basic watercolor painting too, as we decorate and embellish our pieces. The truly exciting part of this paper clay medium is that you are not limited to what Terri shows you; she gives you tools to work with materials and many ideas to get your creativity flowing, but you can make your project as unique as you! You can find objects in your very own home to create textures or molds to form your clay, you have a world of opportunities right at your fingertips! Lastly, once our projects have dried, Terri will guide us through the finishing process, using Modge Podge to seal the paper. Your decorative items can be enjoyed in your home, holding some of your small treasures like rings or coins, but also make great gifts too! This lightweight and durable material can easily be mailed to your friends and loved ones, while we social distance!
We greatly appreciate following organizations,
whose support made these activities possible:
Bank Vista
Casey’s General Store
Kwik Trip
Moose Lodge
St. Cloud Lions
Sauk Rapids VFW
This is a multi-day project (requires drying) with varying times, pending on the number of projects you create and techniques you decide to use!
What you’ll find (or need to collect from your home) in your Materials Kit:
KIT DOES NOT INCLUDE (But you may or may not want to use)
About the Instructor:
This week we are excited to work with Terri Hess, who teaches in our Visual Arts Studios, sells artwork and volunteers in the Paramount Gift Gallery! Terri, a former schoolteacher in the community, is an artist of many talents and interests! She enjoys working with multiple mediums, but focuses on polymer clay, fused glass, and jewelry making. Her designs can be fun and playful or simple and elegant but are all created with great care and consideration! She approaches her artwork as she does her teaching, with an amazingly supportive can-do attitude, enjoying experiences with people of all skill levels!
