Intro to Micromotor Carving
with Ellen Starr
Experience Level: Beginner, no prior experience needed

Wood artist Ellen Starr will introduce an assortment of tools, basic cuts and sanding techniques used to successfully and safely work with a micromotor to crate beautifully details elements to your wood projects. Ellen will also demonstrate a variety of texturing and detailing options throughout the workshop. Join us!

Materials and Tools List:
 Please bring the following (required) items with you to class-  1.
A Power carving tool – Micromotor or a Foredom or Dremel with a flexshaft, and speed control. 

  1. 3/32″ and 1/8″ collet for bits.  

I will be working with a MICRO-PRO CHAMPION carver – there are cheaper brands of Micromotor carvers available online.

  1. Burs as listed below:(Burs can be purchased at various places, I’ve included the following links to show what the burs look like for your reference.)  

German invert pear stump bur

Sabuur Tooth bullnose fine yellow bur

Cylinder stump burs
Single pack of 6

Optional: great value for additional bur shapes: 30 MINI STUMP BURR SET

Various carbide bits can also be used, I will have some on hand for you to try.

Inverted Cone Bur

Diamond bur set – example:

Radial sanding discs – 1″ 80 grit (a variety of grits can be used for finer sanding – kits are available)
