Clay Camps are a great introduction to the world of ceramics! Your artist will have time to hand build (working with clay using just their hands and other simple tools) to create pinch pots, coils pots, and exciting sculpture! We will also spend time exploring the pottery wheel! Students will learn about wedging clay, centering and using fun and exciting techniques to create bowls and cups! Everyone will complete their projects by painting unique designs and patterns of their own choosing, using underglazes! Your artist will have functional pieces that can be used to eat and drink out of, as well as decorative items!
(Please note that clay projects will need to be fired in our kilns, a process that requires three weeks from the last day to complete)
*Is your child interested in attending multiple Clay Camps? GREAT! The more time your artist spends in the ceramic studios the better! Ceramic artists spend years developing their techniques, we would love to have your child to benefit from our phenomenal instructors and facility as frequently as they are interested!
Paramount Center for the Arts Summer Camps!
Our fun-filled camps are jam-packed with extraordinary opportunities to work with clay, painting and drawing, mixed media, glass projects and so much more!
A Quick note about our 10-14 year old classes: Our older students will enjoy the focus of our structured classes that will help them develop their understanding and techniques of the medium that they are working in. With prior arrangement, these students are also welcome to work on independent projects with the guidance of their instructor, allowing for emphasis on the areas that interest them most.
COVID-19 Safety Precautions
We are excited to be back in the Studios again this Summer for in-person art camps!
We are constantly monitoring COVID-19 case rates in our area and adjusting our mitigation protocols to help keep your family, our teaching artists, and our staff safe. As of March 1, 2022:
Masks: We ask that everyone wear a cloth masks that cover both your nose and mouth at all times.
Vaccine/Negative Test: Campers, Staff, and Instructors 13 years and older will currently need to show proof of vaccination or a negative test result.
Limited Class Sizes: Smaller class sizes will allow for better social distancing.
Cleaning: Cleaning will happen daily in each of the studios. In addition to general cleaning our HVAC system has been outfitted with a negative ion machine to continuously clean and exchange air through the building.
Art Show: To limit the number of people in the studios, we unfortunately will not be offering Art Shows this year. Instead, each artist will gather their work into a portfolio and will have it with them outside for pick-up on Thursday. Clay pieces will need to be fired and collected three weeks after the end of camp. We will have additional details about clay pick-up in the future.
*Please note that camps are happening Monday through Thursday this year, allowing us to dedicate time each Friday to thoroughly clean each studio before the next week’s class uses the space.
All registrants will be informed of any changes to our protocols as they occur.
