Visual Arts Studios

The Paramount Visual Arts Studios offer a creative environment for the community to interface with the visual arts. As a community resource, we nurture a love of the arts, welcoming the beginning student through experienced artist in our newly renovated studio for hands-on arts education. We have a great selection of art classes and newly updated studios available to community members at all experience levels. Link to current arts classes for youth and adults.

Please note that The Studios Are Closed the following dates:

Age Requirements:
All visitors must be 18 years or older, unless accompanied by an adult at all times during the visit (unless the program specifically outlines a younger age, such as Summer Art Camps). If you have a student who is under the age of 18 interested in participating in a class, please contact the Visual Arts Department Office to explore options! Cancellation Policy:
If a patron has registered for a program but is unable to attend, cancellations are eligible for a partial refund, less an administration fee of 15% of class tuition, if the cancellation happens 15 or more calendar days prior to the class start date.

Unfortunately, refunds are unavailable if the cancellation happens within 14 days, or fewer, of the class’s start date. Except in the case of a family or medical emergency.

We are unable to pro-rate fees for missed or late registration for programs or classes.

At the discretion of the instructor, students might be able to join a class after the start date. Please contact the Visual Arts Department Office at (320) 257-3128 or email dsegerstrom@paramountarts.org to explore your options!

Low Enrollment:
In the event of low enrollment, the Paramount Center for the Arts may need to cancel a class. Students will be given the option to receive a full refund or transfer their tuition fees toward another class or stage event. Students will be notified of a cancellation via the email used to register for the class and a phone call using the provided contact information. Persons registering more than one person would need to share the update with their party.

Assistance Fund:
If you are interested in one of our educational arts programs but have financial constraints, you may apply for a 50-75% reduction in the original price of the event. The cost of class materials, which is often included in the registration fee, are ineligible for financial assistance and will remain the responsibility of the individual. Studio Practices- What to Expect While You Are Creating with Us!

The Paramount Center for the Arts welcomes all people to the Studios with the expectation of inclusion and respect towards all, including yourself, fellow students, instructors, staff and volunteers.

Instructor Prep Time: Please allow your instructor time to prepare your classroom; if you arrive more than 15 minutes earlier than the class start time, please explore one of our onsite exhibition spaces or wait in the Lobby in the Visual Arts Department.

Cleaning: Please help keep the Studios a welcoming space by cleaning up your area before departing the building.

Food and Beverage: The Visual Arts Department offers a Lobby Area for students and instructors to enjoy food and beverages. There is an onsite microwave and refrigerator, along with vending machines. For your safety, we ask that you please do not eat in any of the Studios.

Ceramics Studios: To ensure the appropriate firing temperatures and to protect the kilns, all clay must be purchased through the Paramount Center for the Arts, no outside clay bodies or glazes should be introduced to the Studios. If you have any questions about clay and glazes, please connect with our Ceramics Technician.

Supplies and Materials: For the safety and wellbeing of all visitors to the Paramount, we ask that materials that are used in the studios are the recommended brands and grade, as described in the materials list, or are approved by Paramount Staff.

Open Studio Access: Ceramic Artists are welcome and encouraged to utilize the Studio outside of class. September to May Studio availability is Monday through Wednesday 10am-9pm and Thursday through Saturday 10am-4pm, when classes are not in session. Please check the calendars posted outside the Pottery and Handbuilding Studios to see when studios are open and available for use!  

Weather Closures:  In the event of severe weather, the Visual Arts Department will update the phone messages on the Information Desk (320) 257-3125, announce closures on the Paramount website homepage, and will communicate via email to any students whose class meeting time is impacted by the closure.

Arts Underground

No registration required.
$10: Adults
$10 Youth/Student (participants under the age of 18 will need an accompanying adult at all times)

Meets Thursdays, 6-9pm (Studio Doors Open at 6pm)

All ages and experience levels are welcome; adults and supervised youth!

Please note this drop in program is offered on a first come first served basis. Once capacity is reached we will post a sign at the door and welcome people to return another Arts Underground Night to create!

 
The Paramount Arts Underground offers people of all ages the opportunity to explore the Paramount Arts Studios to develop artistic skills in a variety of mediums. Working with a studio mentor, you can try your hand at throwing a bowl on the wheel, piecing a mosaic together, turning a wooden bowl on the lathe, forming a sculpture out of clay or creating a painting or drawing. The Paramount has all of the supplies and equipment you need to try something new.
 
Arts Underground welcomes supervised youth and adults to create family friendly art!Pottery, Ceramic Sculpture, Mosaic (youth 7 and under must have an adult present in Studio), Painting, Drawing, Fused Glass (youth 7 and under must have an adult present in Studio), and Wood Turning (ages 13+ only), with periodic specialty mediums such as Print Making and Fiber Arts. Materials included!
 
**Please, no outside materials, clay and glass require certain firing temperatures and other mediums require additional ventilation.
 
Please us the North Doors, located in the back of the building, for access. Door switches and elevators are available at this entrance. Once inside, please use the stairs or elevator to proceed to the lower-level -Visual Arts Department to check in or call (320) 257-3125 for assistance.

 Art Club

Our building is accessible, with door switches and elevators. Parking is available on the North side of the building in the city ramp. CLICK HERE for directions and parking information.
